St Augustine’s success over the last 3 years has seen us become oversubscribed, invest heavily in our staff development and celebrate sustained results and outstanding pupil progress. We take children from right across the coastal area which makes us a truly diverse school community.
Although we may be a smaller than average school (603 on roll) we certainly think big – and our calm and purposeful ethos of learning is frequently commented on from our school community and visitors. Staff know our students well and together we form a cohesive community.
Due to the quality of CPD, colleagues that support each other and a sense of fun and enjoyment we have seen our staff stay and develop – and as such our school has low staff turnover and high staff retention.

Due to retirement we are looking to appoint a colleague to lead our successful English department from either January or Easter 2021 and join our extended SLT team. This is the first core subject leadership post our school has advertised for many years, and as you would expect English is a popular and well-resourced subject.
You will join and lead an established team of 3 other full time and one part-time subject specialists and a full-time librarian. There are five English classrooms, four of which are grouped around our popular library. Our exam board is currently AQA.
We believe this post will offer you the support, challenge and enjoyment you may be looking for in either your first leadership responsibility or move to a different school context.
Regardless of where you are in your career you will receive tailored support from our Headteacher, Assistant Headteachers and staff colleagues as we further develop you and give you the skills, encouragement and experience within the profession to continue to ‘love and serve’.
Many of our staff have accessed professional qualifications for example NPQML and NPQSL, and our area is also home to one of the founding Chartered College of Teaching ‘teaching hubs’.
